It is a plant of which history lasts up to 7000 b.c. . The red lentil is collected in shelled form and then it is separated from the shells and cleaned. It is mostly cultivated in Turkey, Canada and Syria. Red lentil is an important export product of Turkey. In the recent years, it is imported from other country because of unplanned cultivation. It is cultivated in Mardin, Gaziantep, Barak, Şanlıurfa, Viranşehir, Nusaybin, Diyarbakır, Bismil, Ceylanpınar regions. It is a rich plant in terms of protein and iron. It is mostly used for making soup and lentil patties also brings a different colour to the table.
